2009 - Director's Report
As we move into 2010, I‘d like to look back at some success for 2009.
I want to thank you for taking an interest in us and helping make the Music Project Foundation a success in 2009. Through generous donor support, we were able provide 24 weeks of music instruction to youth in need. The music sessions at the Secondary Academy for Success and First Place School were a great success. SAS is an alternative high school in Bothell and First Place is an elementary school in Seattle for children of the homeless. In both schools the reception was overwhelmingly positive.
In addition to performing at their own schools, the students at SAS had the opportunity to perform with Sanjaya, Sonny Turner of the Platters and Theo Peoples of the Four Tops. Other venues included the Triple Door, the Meydenbauer Center and McKinstry Corporation.

We are also very proud that seven of the students at SAS had the confidence to audition at the Moore Theater for their annual event: Jazmyn Lanier
More Music at the Moore http://www.stgpresents.org/education/mm.asp.
This is a very big event featuring the best talent in the state and for our kids to have the courage to perform alone on a big stage in front of judges says a lot about The Music Project and our extraordinary vocal teacher and performance coach, Bernadette Bascom.( http://www.bernadettebascom.com )
Jazmyn Lanier was one on the students selected to perform at this event. This is the fourth year Jazmyn has been with us and she continually continues to improve on her musical talents. She is also a top student who is currently taking college courses through Running Start.

Mark April 1, 2010 on your calendar!
The SAS students will be performing at the Triple Door with a wonderful New Age musician,
Jami Sieber.
Jami plays electric and acoustic cello and her music is absolutely beautiful. Jami came to see us at SAS and loved what she saw and heard. She wanted to help by putting on a show to highlight our work and donating the gate receipts to the Music Project Foundation.
Tickets are $25 through our website:
http://www.musicprojectfoundation.org or the Triple Door http://www.tripledoor.com.
The kids will perform a short show and then Jami and her band will do a set and will culminate with an original piece where she and the kids collaborated.

Our vision is to have a community where youth are confident and are able to meet the demands of life and the mission of the Music Project Foundation is to bring music and the performance experience to youth who are underserved. By getting kids up on stage performing at a high level, we successfully increase their confidence and self esteem. The students participating in the Music Project have shown measurable increases in attendance, academic work and better behavior, both at school and at home. The power of self confidence and self esteem simply cannot be overlooked or under-estimated.
Music is an important part of the lives of most people. Playing, singing and being around music is a dream of many but only a reality for some. Our program makes it a reality for many of those dreamers.
Thank you for making this possible.
Sincerely,

James Geiszler
Executive Director
